Arewa Cohesion Initiative Commends SOMUDIN Women Wing as Annual Sallah Gathering Promotes Unity, Peace, and Empowerment

The National President of the Arewa cohesion for peace, unity and development initiativ Dr. Abdullahi Idris, has commended the Women Wing of the Support Organization for Muslim Ummah with Disabilities in Nigeria (SOMUDIN) for organizing a Sallah Get-Together Dinner aimed at promoting unity, friendship, and empowerment among women living with disabilities in Northern Nigeria.

The event brought together women from diverse backgrounds and disability clusters to celebrate the Sallah festivities while strengthening social bonds and encouraging greater participation in education, entrepreneurship, leadership, and community development.

Dr. Abdullahi Idris described the initiative as a commendable effort that reflects the values of inclusion, compassion, and social cohesion. He noted that creating platforms where women with disabilities can interact, exchange ideas, and support one another is essential for building a more united and progressive society.

He further praised the organizers for their commitment to promoting the welfare and advancement of women with disabilities, stressing that such gatherings help boost self-confidence, encourage economic empowerment, and foster a sense of belonging among participants. He called on government agencies, development partners, religious institutions, and community leaders to continue supporting programmes that enhance the social and economic well-being of persons with disabilities.

Speaking during the occasion, the National President of the Joint Association of Persons with Disabilities in Nigeria, Comrade Rilwanu Abdullahi, said the gathering has become an annual tradition, noting that this year’s edition marks the fourth consecutive year of the initiative.

He explained that the programme was designed to provide a platform for women with disabilities to interact, share experiences, receive guidance, and motivate one another to achieve their personal and professional goals.

According to him, participants have continued to benefit from counseling sessions, mentorship, and words of encouragement aimed at enhancing their confidence and productivity in society.

Delivering one of the keynote presentations, Pastor Dr. Yohanna Buru, National President of the Peace Revival and Reconciliation Foundation of Nigeria, said the organization was pleased to join Muslims in celebrating Sallah as a demonstration of religious harmony and peaceful coexistence.

He noted that festive occasions such as Sallah offer valuable opportunities for Christians and Muslims to interact, build friendships, and promote mutual understanding among communities

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Kaduna State Joint Association of Persons with Disabilities, Comrade Suleiman Abdul Aziz, expressed appreciation to all guests, speakers, partners, and participants who contributed to the success of the annual gathering.

He commended the organizers for their consistency in sustaining the programme over the years and encouraged women with disabilities to continue supporting one another, pursuing their aspirations, and contributing meaningfully to the development of their communities.

The event concluded with renewed commitments from stakeholders to promote inclusion, equal opportunities, and the empowerment of women and persons with disabilities across Northern Nigeria.
