The Kaduna State Climate Change Accountability Mechanism (KADCCAM) has secured the donation of 5,000 tree seedlings from the Kaduna State Horticulture Association in a major step toward strengthening climate action, environmental sustainability, and afforestation efforts across Kaduna State.
The donation, which includes both economic and non-economic tree species, followed a strategic advocacy and partnership meeting between KADCCAM and the leadership of the Kaduna State Horticulture Association on Monday.
The KADCCAM delegation, led by Engr. Shehu Muhammad Dalhat and Rev. Michael Ijah Ikpa, expressed appreciation to the Association for its support, describing the donation as a significant contribution to the state’s efforts to combat climate change and restore degraded landscapes.
Speaking during the meeting, the Chairman of the Kaduna State Horticulture Association, Mr. Bala Umar, commended KADCCAM for promoting collaboration between government institutions and civil society organizations. He reaffirmed the Association’s commitment to supporting initiatives that advance afforestation, climate resilience, sustainable agriculture, and environmental protection in Kaduna State.
Also addressing participants, the Executive Director of Jobulb EduConsult, Ms. Joyce Adeji, stressed the importance of inclusive climate governance. She called on government agencies, civil society organizations, educational institutions, and community leaders to actively engage citizens—particularly students and young people, in climate action programmes.
Adeji advocated the establishment of Climate Clubs in schools and communities to raise environmental awareness, encourage sustainable agricultural practices, and strengthen long-term climate resilience. She also noted that agriculture was humanity’s earliest form of education before the emergence of formal Western education, urging stakeholders to combine indigenous agricultural knowledge with modern scientific innovations to improve food security and climate-smart agricultural productivity.
KADCCAM also commended its leadership, particularly the Co-Chair representing Civil Society Organizations, Mr. Ibrahima Yakubu, and the Co-Chair representing the Government, Alhaji Dr. Abubakar Buba, for their commitment to advancing climate accountability and fostering partnerships that continue to deliver positive environmental outcomes in the state.
According to KADCCAM, the donation of 5,000 tree seedlings marks an important milestone in Kaduna State’s efforts to increase tree cover, promote biodiversity, restore degraded ecosystems, and mitigate the effects of climate change.
The organization called on government agencies, development partners, private sector organizations, educational institutions, faith-based organizations, community groups, and residents of the state to support tree-planting initiatives and adopt environmentally responsible practices to ensure a greener and this more climate-resilient future.
KADCCAM emphasized that sustained collaboration among all stakeholders remains essential to achieving lasting environmental sustainability and climate resilience in Kaduna State.
