The Director-General of Arewa Cohesion for Peace, Unity and Development Initiative, Dr. Abdullahi Idris, has congratulated Nigerians on the occasion of Democracy Day, celebrated annually on June 12.

He made this known in a press release issued to the media on June 12 as the nation commemorated another year of democratic governance.

As preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum, Dr. Idris called on politicians to conduct themselves responsibly and demonstrate genuine patriotism and commitment to national development.

He urged political actors to avoid do-or-die politics, refrain from the use of thugs, and shun all forms of electoral violence capable of undermining the country’s democratic process.

Dr. Idris also appealed to citizens to remain patriotic and prioritize competence, integrity, and proven leadership qualities when casting their votes.

He stressed that the future of Nigeria depends largely on the choices made by voters, urging Nigerians to elect credible candidates with the vision, capacity, and commitment to address the nation’s challenges and deliver good governance.

According to him, electing credible leaders remains one of the most effective ways to strengthen democracy, promote national unity, and ensure sustainable development.

He further called on women to reject all forms of vote-selling and to exercise their civic responsibility by voting for credible and capable candidates who will promote peace, development, and the welfare of the people.

Dr Abdullahi Idris equally urged the Federal Government to intensify efforts to address the growing insecurity challenges threatening peace, unity, and development across the country.

He noted that tackling insecurity remains crucial to preserving the nation’s democratic gains and creating an enabling environment for economic growth and social progress.

Dr. Idris reaffirmed the commitment of the Arewa Cohesion for Peace, Unity and Development Initiative to promoting peace, unity, democratic values, and responsible citizenship across Nigeria.
