The General Overseer of Christ Evangelical and Life Intervention Ministry, Kaduna, Pastor Dr. Yohanna Buru, has called on Nigerians to engage in ceaseless prayers and fasting over the erratic rainfall being experienced across the country this year.
Speaking with journalists in Kaduna, Pastor Buru urged both Christian and Muslim clerics to lead their congregations in seeking God’s intervention to address the inadequate and irregular rainfall, which he said poses a threat to agriculture, food security and livelihoods.
According to the cleric, the current situation goes beyond climate change, environmental degradation and other ecological challenges.
He attributed the erratic rainfall partly to the increasing level of bloodshed, violence and other atrocities being committed in the country.
“The land is angry because of the innocent blood being shed. Human beings have offended God in many ways, and there is a need for sincere repentance and a return to righteousness,” he said.
Pastor Buru called on religious leaders, government officials and citizens to unite in prayer, asking God for mercy, forgiveness and abundant rainfall.
He stressed that alongside spiritual efforts, practical measures must also be taken to address the environmental challenges contributing to climate irregularities.
He called on governments at all levels to intensify tree-planting campaigns, tackle deforestation, promote environmental conservation and support farmers with irrigation facilities.
The cleric further urged security agencies and community leaders to work together to reduce violence, banditry and communal conflicts, noting that peace and stability are essential for national development and agricultural productivity.
He also encouraged Nigerians to protect the environment by avoiding indiscriminate tree felling, bush burning and improper waste disposal, which contribute to environmental degradation.
Pastor Buru appealed to farmers to adopt modern farming techniques, water conservation methods and climate-smart agricultural practices to reduce the impact of changing weather patterns.
He emphasized that genuine repentance, peaceful coexistence, justice, compassion and respect for human life remain critical to attracting God’s blessings and restoring harmony between humanity and nature.
The cleric therefore called on all Nigerians to dedicate time to prayers and fasting while supporting efforts aimed at environmental protection, peaceful coexistence and sustainable agricultural development across the country.
