The Methodist Church Nigeria, Diocese of Kaduna, held its Annual Synod at Wesley Cathedral, led by His Grace, The Most Rev’d Dr. J. O. I. Nnonah, DCF, FNISM, JP, alongside clergy, lay delegates, and members. After prayerful deliberation, the following communiqué was issued.
THEME OF THE 2025 CONFERENCE:
The Synod aligned with the Methodist Church Nigeria’s theme: “HE WILL RISE AGAIN” (John 11:23b), which signifies hope and restoration through God’s redemptive power.
APPRECIATION TO GOD:
We thank Almighty God for His faithfulness and a successful Synod.
PRELATE’S ADDRESS:
The Synod appreciates the inspiring address by His Eminence, Dr. Oliver Ali Aba, The Prelate, who emphasized returning to the foundational doctrines, liturgical practices, and moral standards of the Methodist faith.
COMMENDATION OF GOVERNMENT STRIDES:
The Synod commends Governor Senator Uba Sani for the completion of the Kaduna Urban Renewal Projects, the “KADcares” Social Investment Programme, the Basic Education Infrastructure “Revamp project”, and efforts to promote peace through interfaith dialogue. We urge the government to prioritize rural security and empowerment for youths and women.
CONDEMNATION OF HERDSMEN MILITIA ATTACKS:
The Synod condemns the violence caused by herdsmen militia, including killings, kidnappings, and displacement in various parts of the country, calling for urgent action from the government to address the crisis and provide support for affected communities.
NATIONAL CONCERNS:
The Synod expresses concern over the rising cost of living, insecurity, poverty, corruption, and the deteriorating education and healthcare systems.
ON THE DEATH OF THE POPE:
The Synod mourns the passing of Pope Francis, a global religious leader known for his humility and commitment to peace. We pray for the repose of his soul and encourage believers to follow his example of service.
THE STATE OF THE CHURCH:
The Synod celebrates the growth of the Methodist Church Nigeria, Diocese of Kaduna, and calls on members to remain committed to prayer, evangelism, discipleship, and service.
YOUTH ENGAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT:
The Synod advocates for mentorship programs and leadership training for youth, encouraging their active involvement in the Church’s mission and governance.
APPEAL FOR PEACE AND NATIONAL UNITY:
The Synod reaffirms its commitment to peace and reconciliation, urging Nigerians to reject violence and embrace unity, love, and patriotism.
CONCLUSION:
The Synod prays for God’s continued guidance and blessings upon the Diocese, Kaduna State, Nigeria, and the world.
