World Environment Day 2026: NESREA Engages Government Officials, Students on Climate Action, Sustainability in Jos

The Special Adviser to the Governor of Plateau State on Environment , Mr. Isreal Dan’auta, the Honourable Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Peter Kanang Gwom and the Director General of the Plateau State Environmental Protection and Sanitation Agency (PEPSA), Hon. Samuel Dapiya were among the Stakeholders that graced the 2026 World Environment Day 2026 celebration organized by the North Central Zonal Office of the Nayional Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) in Jos.

 

Also at the event were key stakeholders, and environmentalists, as well as students from four selected schools: COCIN LCC Nyango Gyel Private School, GSS Laranto, Bethel Christian Academy, Rayfield, and Haneef High School, Jos.

The Acting Zonal Director, Mr. Jude Fiifi Appiah, and speakers at the event highlighted the importance of environmental sustainability, climate action, and collective responsibility in addressing environmental challenges in line with the objectives of WED 2026.

An exhibition of NESREA’s environmental monitoring, compliance, and enforcement toolkits and equipment was conducted for stakeholders and participating students, with the use each piece of equipment in environmental compliance monitoring and enforcement demonstrated.

A debate session was conducted among students from the participating schools, to foster environmental awareness and provide an opportunity for them to articulate their views on climate change, environmental protection, and sustainable development.

Branded school bags bearing the World Environment Day 2026 theme were distributed to all participating students to commemorate the event and inspire environmental responsibility in the younger generation.

Tree seedlings were also presented to participants and students to encourage tree planting, environmental stewardship, and long-term commitment to climate action and ecosystem restoration.

The Plateau State Coordinator, Mr. Polycarp Moezang, in his vote of thanks expressed appreciation to all participants and stakeholders for their contributions to the success of the event.
