The Kaduna Justice and Peace Forum (KJPF) has condemned the killing of a woman in Maraban Jos, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, and called for the prosecution of those responsible.

The victim was allegedly lynched and set ablaze by a mob over claims of child theft, despite the lack of evidence to support the accusation.

Speaking on the incident, the forum’s assistant Public Relations Officer, Hajiya Ramatu Tijjani, described the killing as a grave violation of human rights and a threat to the rule of law.

She urged security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that those involved are held accountable.

“This is really bad and call justice to the woman that set ablaze through jangle justice”

Tijjani also appealed to residents to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and expressed sympathy to the family of the deceased.

According to the Kaduna State Police Command, the incident occurred at about 10:00 a.m. on June 21, 2026, when the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Maraban Jos received a report that a woman was being attacked over allegations of child theft.

Police said there was no evidence linking the woman to the alleged crime.

The command has pledged to arrest and prosecute all those connected to the attack.

In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, said officers moved quickly to the scene after receiving the report.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Muhammad, condemned the incident and assured the public that investigations are underway to identify and bring the perpetrators to justice.

The killing has renewed concerns over mob violence and prompted calls for citizens to allow law enforcement agencies to handle criminal allegations through due process.
