A head of the world International Day of Women in Diplomacy on 24 June, activists have called for stronger support and recognition of women peacebuilders, highlighting their critical role in promoting sustainable peace.
Hajiya Ambassador Ramatu Tijjani, National President of the Women’s Wing of the Peace Revival and Reconciliation Foundation of Nigeria, emphasized the urgent need to strengthen the participation of women in peacebuilding processes at all levels of society.

In a statement released to the press, she noted that women’s inclusion in mediation, dialogue, and reconciliation efforts is essential in addressing conflict and fostering lasting peace within communities. According to her, peace processes are more effective and sustainable when women are actively involved in decision-making and conflict resolution.
She further stressed the importance of empowering young women to take active roles in peacebuilding initiatives, describing them as vital contributors to the future of peaceful and stable societies.
Hajiya Ramatu Tijjani reiterated that evidence has consistently shown that gender-inclusive peace processes lead to more durable and long-lasting peace after conflict. She called for increased investment in women-led peace initiatives and stronger institutional support for their participation.
Women’s inclusion in peacebuilding, she concluded, is not only a matter of fairness but a proven strategy for achieving lasting peace and stability.
