Kaduna Ministry of Human Services, KADCCAM Strengthen Partnership on Climate Change Awareness

The Kaduna State Ministry of Human Services and Social Development has welcomed members of the Kaduna State Climate Change Accountability Mechanism (KADCCAM) during a courtesy visit aimed at strengthening collaboration on climate change awareness and environmental protection.

The Honourable Commissioner, Hajiya Rabi Salisu Ibrahim, said the visit would enhance discussions on issues related to climate change and environmental degradation, which greatly affect women and children.hence the need to join hands with every stakeholders to raise awareness against all forms of environmental degradation

According to her, climate change is a real challenge that disproportionately affects women, hence the need for strong collaboration among stakeholders to create awareness among the general public.

She explained that the ministry has trained several women on briquette charcoal production and also supported them with renewable cooking stoves in order to reduce the impact of air pollution that affects many women during cooking.

The commissioner added that the ministry is ready to partner with all relevant stakeholders to engage more women in environmental protection and efforts to reduce air pollution.

Hajiya Rabi Salisu Ibrahim also thanked the Co-Chairman of KADCCAM for visiting the ministry and for showing interest in collaborating to create awareness and support government efforts to address environmental challenges.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the Co-Chairman of KADCCAM, Ibrahima Yakubu, said the purpose of the visit was to strengthen ties and promote collaborative efforts with the ministry in raising awareness about climate change, particularly among women and children.

According to him, working closely with the ministry would help educate more women and children on the need to protect their environment.

He stated that KADCCAM is ready to collaborate with all stakeholders to address environmental challenges such as flooding, diseases, desertification, deforestation, and other forms of environmental degradation and pollution.

He commended the ministry for its efforts in training women in briquette charcoal production and providing improved cooking stoves to reduce pollution affecting women during cooking.

Ibrahima Yakubu also called for the inclusion of indigenous women in environmental awareness campaigns, noting that their participation would support government efforts to protect their ancestral lands from environmental degradation caused by excessive firewood and charcoal activities.

He further revealed that KADCCAM is planning to train women on how to produce interlocking tiles using recycled pure water sachets as part of efforts to reduce plastic pollution and promote waste-to-wealth initiatives in Kaduna State.

He concluded by appreciating the ministry for honouring the visit and showing commitment to collaboration.

The Kaduna State Climate Change Accountability Mechanism (KADCCAM) is a multi-stakeholder platform including government representatives established to promote climate accountability, environmental protection, and community awareness on climate change issues in Kaduna State.

The mechanism brings together civil society organisations, community groups, media practitioners, and other stakeholders working toward strengthening climate governance and environmental sustainability.
