Kaduna State University (KASU) has successfully secured a research grant of N18 million for a project sponsored by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).
The recipient of the grant is Auwal Farouk Abdussalam, an Associate Professor in the Department of Geography at KASU. The research grant was awarded under the TETFund 2021 National Research Fund (NRF) Intervention, with a total value of N18,500,000.00.
The project is titled “Development of a Framework for Incorporating Climate Change Impact and Adaptation in the Management of Road Networks in Nigeria.” Dr. Abdussalam will lead a group of researchers in conducting the research, serving as the principal investigator.
The purpose of this research grant is to enable KASU and the research team to make significant contributions to the government’s goal of promoting research as a catalyst for national development.
Additionally, KASU is required to submit periodic progress reports on the research to TETFund. The research project is expected to be completed within a duration of 24 months.
Auwal Farouk Abdussalam is an Associate Professor of Applied Meteorology and Environmental Sciences at the Department of Geography. He also heads the Climate Change Research Unit at KASU. Dr. Abdussalam holds a PhD in Geography and Environmental Sciences, specializing in Climate Change Impact Assessment, from the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom. Prior to that, he obtained his BSc and MSc in Geography from Bayero University, Kano and Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, respectively.
Dr. Abdussalam’s research interests include climate change impact assessment, adaptation and mitigation, disaster risk management, environmental sustainability, and environmental impact assessment. He has presented his work at various conferences and has published numerous research outcomes in high-impact journals, books, and book chapters. Furthermore, he has received several national and international academic grants and awards, including the prestigious National Research Fund grant by TETFund, where he serves as the Principal Investigator. Dr. Abdussalam has also supervised and mentored master’s students and PhD candidates. Currently, he holds the position of Director of Academic Planning, having previously served as the Director of Admissions and Examinations.

Eberemu, specializing in Sustainable Highway Geotechnics; Dr. Aminu Suleiman, specializing in Sustainable Highway and Transportation; Dr. Atiku Sadiq Abubakar, specializing in Highway Maintenance and Rehabilitation; Dr. Mansur Hamma-Adama, specializing in Construction Project Management; Dr. H.M. Alhassan, specializing in Transportation Engineering and the Environment; Dr. Muttaka Naiya Ibrahim, specializing in Traffic and Pavement Engineering; Mrs. Bashariya Mustapha Baba, specializing in Climate Change and Tourism; and Mallam Zahradeen Isah, a climatologist.
