Following the reports about Gwauro Community in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State that embarked on the building of maternity to stem the high maternal and infant deaths in the area some months back.
Team of journalists that visited the community has again revisit the area and interact with the residents ,so as to see the up-date of the clinic in the area.but surprisingly, it was almost finish.
Malam Umar Galadima, is one of the tradional title holders in the community ,he told newsmen that visited the village that they are really grateful with the support of the media and the support from the local government for such a marvelous job, which is aim at finishing the clinic project, so as to reduce the rate of maternal and infant death in the village.
The media has play a great role in spreading our message to authority, and we are really happy with the result and the intervention of the local government.
He said we must commend Igabi local government for the support which is aimed at completing the hospital structures.
Umar said if you could remembered very well some times back, I told you that lack of access road and hospital had led to the death of several pregnant women and infants in the area.
“We have been losing lives of so many pregnant women and children as a result of the distance between our village and near-by towns to access hospital services.
“We have to travel about 25 to 30 kilometres from this community to locate any hospital outside the town for medical attention.
“Due to the distance, most pregnant women were left at the mercy of traditional birth attendants.
“So the seven bedroom maternity clinic we are constructing is to curb maternal and child mortality.
“We are tired of seeing our women, sisters and mothers dying due to lack of proper healthcare services.
Umar said ,majority of the village habitants were mostly Hausa,Fulani which are predominantly peasant farmers and fishermen.
Adding also that there are over 5000 residents that has been living in peace and harmony for decade of years in the community without having any clashes of ethno-religious political crisis in the area.
He also said that the community require access road to ease their transportation difficulties.
Umar further mention that due to lack of bad road in the area, they usually carry the body of their late once on motor-bike and some times on wheel-barrow to transport it from Maraban- jos hospital in Town to village for burial.
Meanwhile Malam Saidu Rohugi, another member of the community, Thanks the local government for the efforts which is aimed at completing the clinic project. Which according to him will reduce lost of pregnant womens ,little children’s and elderly persons in the community.
Maryam musa another residents in the community Appealed To UNICEF and WHO with state government to come and help them complete another community schools in the area in which the community are constructing,
she also commended the local government for making effort to complete the clinic project.
