Women with disabilities to stage endurance trekking tomorrow demanding for inclusion
In a statement sigh by malama Rahmatu Ahmed one of the union leader of the joint national association of person with disabilities JONAPWD and Network of women with disabilities in Kaduna state chapter
She said the endurance trekking is aim at addressing critical issues that is seriously affecting their members in state due to so many factors affecting them in terms of participation in politic and governance.
According to the various groups, since the returned of democracy in Nigeria from 1999 till date ,no single woman or girl with disabilities have been giving a political appointment either at the state or local government level ,and hence the need to draw the attention of all stake holders toward changing the narrative in the state and country at large.
She note that, The endurance trekking which will hold tomorrow morning from police college to Ranchers bees stadium would take off at 8.30am which would be accompany by other Civil society organization, media and government representative.
The groups emphasized that, The Women organization are advocating for 35 percent affirmative action, which according to them, they have never thought of ear marking a single percentage for women and girls with disabilities out of the 35 percent affirmative action they are advocating .
Furthermore, the groups stressed that no any political party from the ward level up to state level created a space for women and girls with disabilities in their structure.
Ramatu also decry of low awareness creations by women organization,political parties and civil society on the inclusion of women and girls with disabilities in active participation in politics
In the state,
The organization therefore Appealled to Women organization in the state and country as a whole to ear mark 5 percent of their campaign for affirmative action for women and girls with disabilities
While thanking WRAPA and Mac Arthur foundations for supporting them, they equally applauded the effort of members of the press for attending all their events
