Climate Change: Group commences campaign to raise one hundred million seedlings In Bauchi -Nigeria

BAUCHI, North-East, Nigeria – A group under the auspice of Climate Action Group, (CAG) has commenced campaign to raised one hundred million tree seedlings for planting in Bauchi State.

Chief Executive Officer of group, Abdulhamid Tahir Hamid, disclosed on Wednesday, August 19, 2020 during the kick-off of the nursery plantation in Bauchi Local Goverent Area.

He said the exercise is the commencement of CAG’s plan to raise one hundred million seedlings to cover two hundred hectares of land targeting 5 hectares in 50 cities globally. the CAG plans to organize a Memorable tree plantation campaign worldwide.

He explained that this is part of the group’s effort to mitigate the effect of climate change in the world.

According to Hamid, CAG was few weeks ago allocated a space to raised a nursery plantation by the Bauchi State Environmental Protection Agency, (BASEPA).

The plantation in one of the seven spaces allocated to CAG in Bauchi LGA will accommodate fifty thousand seedlings at the Agency’s headquarters.

The Director-General of BASEPA, Dr. Ibrahim Kabir, who was represented at the event by the Director of Environmental Conservation, Mallam Aminu Ningi, said the initiative is in line with the Agency’s mandate to protect the environment which tree planting is a key factor.

He also said it will assist to control desertification which is one of the major ecological problems in the state.

Also speaking, State Coordinator of the project, Sadiya Karamba, said the idea of raising the plant Nursery is to mitigate the effects of deforestation, encourage afforestation, engaged the Youth, and to also create awareness on the effects of climate change.

Similarly, BASEPA Desk Officer, Plant Nursery Development, Haruna Suleiman, commended the group for coming up with the idea, and promised to give good care to the plantation in terms of watering and security.

The Group’s Ambassador, Hamza Shanu, expressed appreciation to the Agency for finding his organization worthy of collaboration and hope the relationship between the two organizations would be sustained.
