Interfaith women are working tirelessly to reverse life-threatening challenges facing the environment in Nigeria, as the country’s declining mangrove forests face extinction – after decades of degradation and climate change factors.
The Women groups says its really high time , to participate in trees planting Campaign, so as to reduce Global warming, deforestation, desertification ,soil erosion and all forms of environmental degradation that is facing the entire 19 northern states of Nigeria.
According to one of the woman that lead the Campaign Hajiya Ramatu Adamu,From International interfaith center in kaduna, she stressed that planting trees would help in combating climate change and reduce ecological challenges that is facing the communities.
Adding also that allowing women to be fully involved in the fight against climate change, would surely help toward reducing the burden of air pollution in the environment.
Trees play a significant role in protecting and saving the environment against all form of disaster.
Ramatu says , Trees help clean the air we breathe, filter the water we drink, and provide habitat to over 80% of the world’s terrestrial biodiversity.

“we want to see every one engaged in the fight against desertification,climate change and environmental degredation”
Trees also help toward prevent flooding and soil erosion, absorbing thousands of litres of stormwater.
They reduce wind speeds and cool the air as they lose moisture and reflect heat upwards from their leaves. It’s estimated that trees can reduce the temperature in a city by up to 7°C.
She said, women interfaith joined the campaign .so that they can also contribute in saving the community from ecological challenges.
In his remark ,a medical scientist from African climate reporters ,comrade Nurudden bello, he said, every year large number of women dies due to indoor air pollution and other forms of smoke from cooking materials.
He said large number of African women still uses trees and charcoal for cooking at home.
The medical scientist says in a researched conducted Eurek Alert news , Air pollution causes 800,000 extra deaths a year in Europe and 8.8 million worldwide.
He said , The researchers found that air pollution caused an estimated 8.8 million extra deaths globally rather than the previously estimated 4.5 million.
Air pollution causes about 780,000 premature deaths per year in Africa.
He said, there is need to train more women and children on how to embrace renewable energy
Access to clean modern energy services is an enormous challenge facing the African continent because energy is fundamental for socioeconomic development and poverty eradication.
Nigeria is blessed with a large amount of renewable natural resources, which, when fully developed and utilized, will lead to poverty reduction and sustainable development.
Calling on states and federal government to always support NGOs that are sensitizing the public on tree planting and renewable energy.
