The Director of African Climate reporters Comrade Mohammed zakariyya has stressed the important of training and re-training young Nigerian Farmers on various ways to combat Climate change, desertification, deforestation and River bank erosion,in order to save more agricultural land from turning to desert-sahara.
Mohammed stated this during a one day workshop organize by African Climate reporters at Teku international farm kaduna with the aims of educating young farmers about climate change and environmental degradation affecting agricultural land.
According to him training helps more farmers to incorporate the latest scientific advances and technology tools into their daily operations in the farmland and the environment ,which help in producing quality food crops .
He said, it is important to educate Nigerian farmers about climate change and other environmental challenges ,so as to enabled them learnt all the various ways to protect them farmland and the farm crops.
“Our Target is to train more rural farmers about Climate change and to raise more awareness on trees planting along the river Bank”
“Large number of local farmers along river banks in nigeria loses huge hectares of agricultural land due to desertification and River bank erosion”
“we need more support from ministry of agriculture in order to take the campaign to all the needed groups of young farmers that are residing in the villages”
He stressed that Farmers are in need of continuance of education to make them aware of the fast moving changes taking place around the globe in the field of cultivation and farming system.
Adding also that Climate change is having impacts on Nigeria agricultural systems which need to be addressed.
Mohammed added that, Farmers require on-going education to stay aware of fast-moving developments in technology, science, business management, climate change,weather focus, and an array of other skills and fields that affect agricultural operations
“we are planing to engage more extension feild officers into our prorams,so that they can help us in taking the camaign to the needed groups of farmers residing in the rural communities”

While applauded the role of media in the country in creating Agricultural programs ,he equally thanks all the news papers,radio and TV station for educating rural farmers about new farming technique in their Nomal media houses
He said ,The media have been their major sources of information and which they rely upon. Even though, some of the farmers are affected by climate change, they still lack the capacity to adapt to the uprising issues.

Responding ,the general manager Teku international farm kaduna,Alhaji Ibrahim salisu, he said, every year, they used to organize different programs in the farm which is target at educating the young farmers about new farming techniques and how to adapt to climate change and other environmental factors affecting crops production.
“our target is to educate over 300 young farmers in Nigeria about climate change and new method of farming”
