During World Interfaith Harmony Week 2026, the Network of Peace Journalists in Kaduna State intensified its commitment to promoting peaceful coexistence and strengthening interreligious tolerance across communities.
Beyond responsible and conflict-sensitive reporting, the network amplified peace messaging through coordinated radio and television programs, online publications, and community-based media engagements. These platforms were strategically used to counter misinformation, discourage hate speech, and promote narratives of unity, mutual respect, and shared values among diverse religious groups.

As part of its strategic outreach, the network conducted high-level advocacy visits to mosques, churches, markets, schools, and traditional institutions across the state. These engagements brought together religious leaders, traditional rulers, youth representatives, women groups, and community influencers to foster dialogue, build trust, and encourage collaborative peacebuilding initiatives.
Speaking on the initiative to end the week long events, the Team Leader, Mr. Ibrahima Yakubu, emphasized that the network remains committed to serving as a bridge between communities, media institutions, and policymakers.
He noted that religious and traditional leaders play a vital role in shaping public attitudes and promoting harmony, particularly in culturally diverse societies.
He further highlighted that the advocacy campaign focused on strengthening early warning mechanisms, encouraging sustained interfaith dialogue, and empowering faith-based organizations to champion peaceful coexistence at the grassroots level.

One of the scholars consulted during the engagement, Reverend Tutus Ishaya, commended the initiative, stating that the media has played a critical role in promoting peaceful coexistence and religious tolerance in the state during Harmony Week. He described the efforts of the Network of Peace Journalists as timely and impactful, noting that responsible journalism can significantly reduce tensions, correct harmful narratives, and inspire communities to embrace unity over division.

Through these sustained and strategic efforts, the Network of Peace Journalists continues to position itself as a leading stakeholder in advancing social cohesion, fostering unity, and building a more peaceful and inclusive Kaduna State.
