The International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Kaduna Branch, under the leadership of Barr. Funke Bamikole, has joined the rest of the nation in celebrating Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.

In a press statement released on October 2, 2025, Barr. Bamikole congratulated the nation on reaching this historic milestone and called for greater peace, unity, and patriotism across all 36 states of Nigeria.

“Nigeria celebrates 65 years of independence—an important milestone in the nation’s history,” she stated.

She emphasized that as Nigeria commemorates its freedom from colonial rule, it is a moment to celebrate the perseverance, resilience, and unity of the Nigerian people in the face of adversity.

This anniversary, she noted, stands as a symbol of hope, even in trying times.

Reflecting on the sacrifices of Nigeria’s founding fathers, Barr. Bamikole said:

“On this historic day, we pay tribute to the sacrifices of our founding fathers who fought tirelessly for our liberation many of whom paid the ultimate price. They envisioned a sovereign nation where our collective talents, resources, and potential would be harnessed to build an egalitarian society. The question we must now ask ourselves is: Are we building on their legacy or tearing it apart?”

She further highlighted that Independence Day serves as a reminder of Nigeria’s emergence as a sovereign nation, the richness of its cultural and ethnic diversity, and the unwavering spirit of its people.

“As we reflect on 65 years of nationhood,” she said, “we must acknowledge both the struggles we’ve endured and the progress we’ve achieved often against all odds.

Let us take pride in our heritage, our vast natural resources, our vibrant economy, and most importantly, the indomitable spirit of the Nigerian people.”

She concluded with a firm declaration:

“Nigeria is a great nation and shall remain indivisible, no matter the circumstances.”

She called on citizens to be patriotic, loyal and discipline
