Nigerian engineer has built the first and biggest plastic bottle house at Yelwa village, along Zaria–Kaduna road, the Chief Executive Officer of the Developmental Association for Renewable Energy in Nigeria, Yahaya Ahmed, said.
Ahmed, who spoke with select newsmen in Abuja, disclosed that the new building technique was introduced in order to save the environment against all forms of threat that is related to pollution, climate change.
The engineer noted that these plastic bottles were collated from the street sidewalks, in parks, front yards, rivers, local streams and refuse dump site.
According to him ,they are currently training many Nigerian jobless youth this new modern building with the plastic bottles,so as to immensely reduce the huge number of plastic battles that is causing many environmental challenges.
He said, in every minute , a million of plastic bottles are bought around the world, but lack of recycling these bottles are the big problems to the society is facing, and that is why they introduce the new techniques in building new decorative designs houses through the plastic bottles, in other to save the environment against all forms of threat that is related to pollution ,climate change ETC
Yahaya said, these plastic bottled are found on sidewalks, in parks, front yards, rivers, local streams ,refuse dump site, Beverage Cans, Food Wrappers, and even if you chop them into tiny pieces they still take more than a human lifetime to decompose.
Adding that they are using these plastic which are collected from trash dump areas in the communities , so as to construct this house ,which is even more stronger than the normal blocks which are usually used in building a House.
“The plastic bottled house can last for more than 300 year without shaking, if constructed properly, it can stand the challenge of fireproof, bulletproof, and earthquake resistant and adapt to all kind of climate change and desertification.”
Plastics are quickly overtaking other material options for constructing fences, bridges, walkways, and jetties. Using recycled plastics can lower the cost for manufacturers and offer a solution that resists rot and vandalism and is durable in the long-term.
He says ,The plastic bottle house could be constructed anywhere, even on water if a good and adequate foundation is prepared before hand.
Yahaya further pointed out clearly that constructing such beautiful home duly consume time and technical guide. “The bottles, even though filled with sand, are waterproof if securely capped. Undertaking such task however need some elementary preparations, namely, getting enough bottles and finding good or trained manpower to fill the bottles, not anyhow, but as it should be and that it duly need the guidance of professional from the Centre”
“i must confess to you that, plastic bottles and plastic bags are the most prevalent form of pollution found on our beaches and in our oceans, trash dump areas, and there is the need to find ways of recycling them, and that is why we chooses to recycled them through constructing plastic houses with them in other to save the environment and the people living in the community”
Additionally ,he said Plastic isn’t biodegradable and can take hundreds of years to disintegrate.
Also responding, Mallam Abuja mohammed sani, who is an architect and a lecturer at kaduna polytechnic kaduna says, they are trying to see that they build the first upstairs in Africa which is madeup of plastic bottled.
The lecturer state that ,they are hoping that in six months to finished the building and the engineers are committed to the task.
He says, over 1.5million of plastic bottles were gathered for the construction of the building, and the aims is to bring new design of construction through plastic bottled in Africa,so as to creat job opportunity for the jobless youth that are roaming the street.
“we want to design new houses that support the global fight against climate change and environmental degradation and we want to see young Nigerian most especially the young once learnt how to construct this type of building through collecting plastic bottles”
Meanwhile Dr piman Hoffman the assistant Director African Climate reporters expressed happiness over the effort by the Nigerian engineers for making such an effort in creating the first biggest African plastic bottled house in Abuja- Nigeria
He said, the first African plastic bottle house was constructed at Yelwa village, Zaria –Kaduna road by Engineer Yahaya Ahmed.
Adding also that the huge amount of plastic that ends up in the seas can cause environmental damage and cause harm to birds, marine animals, and fish, hence the need to encourage more Nigerian into this activities,
He note that , the benefits of recycling plastics are numerous for both production and the environment. Although the uses of those reused bottles and other materials may not always be obvious, they find their ways into many of the products and building materials that we rely on for everything from food to furniture
As cities expand and buildings require renovation, construction is a constantly growing industry. Plastics are commonly used in building materials, such as flooring, pipes, drainage, and damp proof membrane.
He concluded by calling on African UNION AU to find ways of encouraging entrepreneurs in bringing new ideas of recycling plastic bottles across the African Nation
While appealing to NGO/CSOs with environmentalist to support government at all cost in the fight against climate change, desertification, deforestation and environmental degredation,he then urged countries that are contributing in polluting world,to support any one that is contributing in reducing garbage and other trash that is causing serious health and environmental challeges to both Human,Animal and finally to Aquatic lives
