The Federating Empowerment For Human Development (FEHDOM), has with a period of two years , empowered over 5000 farmers on new ways of mitigating the negative effects of climate change on crops.
According to The organization it has trained and empowered the same number of farmers with drought resistant seedlings and the latest techniques of improving crop yields.
MR AROME IDAKWO is the secretary of FEDDOM which is a Non-Governmental organization that trains rural and urbans farmers,
During interactive section with team of African climate reporters that that visited the NGO says the NGO , has over 50 cooperative societies as component units and each of these societies send no less than 40 members each for training and empowerment.
Mr. Arome further stated that preparations are a foot for another round training session for farmers with resource persons coming Ahmad Bello University Zaria.
This, he said would further enhance farmers ability to tackle climate change and how to prevent low crop yield.
Throwing more light on the achievements of the NGO, the head of the organization, Mallam Abdulrahman Baba Ali said that the organization actually provides soft loans for members monitor the recipients of the loans so as to make sure that they are successful in any system of farming .
Baba Ali further stated, the NGO has gone into partnership with UKAIDS, UNAIDS and some others international organizations in order to boost the capacity development of the farmers.
He also reiterated that these partnership with foreign organizations have yielded the much needed results as farmers all over the state are bountifully reaping their yields.
On the coming conference slated for the early week of November, the Chairman of FEHDOM said that his organization is targeting over ten thousand farmers from all over the state .Stating that the farmers would be taught how to mitigate the negative effects of climate change best agricultural practices, agricultural mechanization and new methods of crop propagation.
While thanking the Federal and State Governments for their immense contribution to farmers and to FEHDOM, the chairman called on the government to be more proactive in releasing funds to farmers so that they could be more productive.
The assistant director of African climate reporters Dr piman Hoffman says, the reason for visiting the NGO is to see how they are training local farmers on new farming technics and to see how are local farmers adapting to issues related to climate change.
The director then appealed to federal ministry of agric to educate more rural farmers on new farming method, so as to feed the nation with enough food, while calling on agricultural stake holders to always educate youth farmers on climate change and introduce new species of crops that a resistance to hot temperature.
